about

We’ve had to wait for it, but, at last, their debut Lp is available. Someone could think, after rejoicing with the album cover, that this could be THE white SUPREMES ...no, the women causing such a funny touch to the Lp are not other that the members of HEBRIDAS’ mothers.

Jokes aside, after their first release, “Con ojos de niño EP” (ER-133), the musical development of HEBRIDAS is quite obvious. They left for Castellon (where bands like USURA and SILVANIA had already gone) to record more than ten new songs coming in their album.

If there’s something they’ve got, that’s experience: They’ve been on the move for several years now, being this the reason why in Seville, their city, everybody knows them. That experience is reflected in the wonderfully performed songs: “Harvest Moon”, “Submarine”, ... Songs all of them touched by the indescribable voice of Sandra: tender, sad, a magnet attracting a whole world of sensations that covers you in the most desolate of times. The majority of the structures are conceived as semiacoustic, although they could, with no trouble, come to pairs of distortion and overcharged electricity.

Their influences are quite varied: NEIL YOUNG, MADDER ROSE, DINOSAUR JR., PIXIES, AUTEURS, ...they say that Sandra reminds of JULIANA HATTFIELD when she sings ...up to you!. Anyway, there is not doubt that no one could remain impassive after listening to them: it could be because of their use of violins, or because of their slowed down tempos or their cutting the air with distortion, their songs still touch you (“Happy Monster”).

A very perfectionist production rounds off a work that should take them to where they belong. They have grown up and their themes have got a gift they lacked before: they’re not only beautiful songs, they get you hooked in their hurting humanity.
