Si no lo ves acércalo
Ponlo al revés o vuélcalo
Busca porque, obsérvalo
Y cómo fue, porque razón
No me lo vuelvas a contar
Tú siempre intentas estar por detrás
Tan sólo tienes que pensar
En ser otra vez una persona normal
Que quiere aprender para poder enseñar
Qué vas a ser, pon atención
Sólo una vez, inténtalo
Qué vas a hacer, explícalo
Convénceme, acláralo
No me lo vuelvas a contar
Tú siempre intentas estar por detrás
Tan sólo tienes que pensar
En ser otra vez una persona normal
Que quiere aprender para poder enseñar
A few months ago we received a different demo tape, one which was easily distinguished among the lot of tapes coming with the mail. It came from Granada, a town with an acknowledged pop tradition (LOS PLANETAS, 091, LA ESPECIE SUB...), and it featured two pure pop songs which soon got -and still remain- stuck to our minds. Obviously, we couldn’t resist and decided to release a single (“Si No Lo Ves”, released by the same time than this “Nidea”) with the songs from that demo, keeping the spontaneity and lo-fi freshness of the originals, before we agreed to announce the forthcoming debut LP of the band.
The band was called CECILIA ANN, and was formed in May 1993. After passing more than two years inside the rehearsing local, sculpturing their sound and creating from nowhere (this is the first of project of all its members) an amazingly solid personality, they finally come out with these fantastic, sugared tracks, like a poisoned candy which would give the most pleasant of deaths.
CECILIA ANN’s sound is a mixture of the freshness of a band just beginning to walk with an unusual self-consciousness in such a young band: they are masters at composing, mixing strong or crystalline guitars with austere, elegant keyboards. The characteristic Rickenbacker sound is backed by the efervescence of the organ, and the three voices make a perfect melodic whole, similat to the best craftsmen of the American pop. Something that’s almost hair-rising in a band still developing, whose best moments are surely still to arrive. If you add a glamorous, stylish image, and Spanish lyrics to sing along to, there’s no doubt we are in front of one of the most important debuts of the last months.
